Kindles can’t open a file you’ve downloaded directly. Send it to your Kindle instead: email the file to your personal @kindle.com address, or use the free Send to Kindle app on your computer. Your address is under Amazon → Account → Content and Devices → Preferences → Personal Document Settings — and on that same page you must add the address you’re sending from to the “Approved Personal Document E-mail List,” or Amazon won’t deliver it. It has to be a complete address — domain-only entries like @gmail.com stopped working in April 2025. Amazon has accepted EPUB directly since late 2022, so there’s nothing to convert first.
Fire tablets can’t open EPUB files on their own, and they don’t have the Google Play Store to install a reader from — but you can do all of this from the Fire itself, no computer needed. Download the file, find it in the Silk browser under menu → Downloads, then open the Email app and send it as an attachment to your @kindle.com address (see the Kindle section above for where to find that address and how to approve your sender address). It’ll appear in the Kindle app already installed on your Fire within a few minutes — check the Docs tab if it’s not in your Library. PDFs open directly on a Fire with no transfer needed.
Tap the downloaded file, then tap the Share icon and choose Books to open it in Apple Books. It’ll stay in your library afterwards. Both EPUB and PDF work this way with nothing extra to install.
Open the downloaded file with Google Play Books, or install a free reader like Moon+ Reader or ReadEra from the Play Store. Note that Amazon Fire tablets run a different system without the Play Store — see the Fire Tablet section above.
Connect your Kobo to a computer via USB. Drag the file into the root folder of the device, then eject safely. The book appears after the device syncs. Kobo reads EPUB natively, so nothing needs converting.
Connect your Nook to a computer via USB and copy the file into the My Files/Books folder on the device, then eject safely.
On a Mac, double-click an EPUB to open it in Apple Books. On Windows, the free Calibre app reads and organises EPUB files (and can convert between formats if you ever need to). PDFs open in any browser or PDF viewer on every platform.
Most e-readers support EPUB natively. Connect via USB and copy the file to the device’s books folder, or use Calibre to transfer and convert if your device needs a different format.
On its way!
Your book should reach your Kindle momentarily. If it doesn’t appear, check the Docs tab in your Kindle library and confirm you approved [email protected] as a sender.

We’ll email the EPUB to your Kindle library. Two things to do:
1. Add [email protected] to your Approved Personal Document E-mail List on Amazon. Without this Amazon will quietly discard the book.
2. Enter your Kindle address below (Amazon → Account → Content and Devices → Preferences → Personal Document Settings).
Delivery usually takes a few minutes. If it doesn’t arrive, check the Docs tab in your Kindle library, then confirm you approved the address above.
