How to Read Your Download

Your book is a standard EPUB or PDF file — the same format every other bookstore and delivery service uses. If it won’t open, it’s almost always because your device needs the file transferred to it rather than downloaded directly. Find your device below and you’ll be reading in a couple of minutes.

Instructions for your device

Kindle

Kindles can’t open a file you’ve downloaded directly. Send it to your Kindle instead: email the file to your personal @kindle.com address, or use the free Send to Kindle app on your computer. Your address is under Amazon → Account → Content and Devices → Preferences → Personal Document Settings — and on that same page you must add the address you’re sending from to the “Approved Personal Document E-mail List,” or Amazon won’t deliver it. It has to be a complete address — domain-only entries like @gmail.com stopped working in April 2025. Amazon has accepted EPUB directly since late 2022, so there’s nothing to convert first.

Fire Tablet

Fire tablets can’t open EPUB files on their own, and they don’t have the Google Play Store to install a reader from — but you can do all of this from the Fire itself, no computer needed. Download the file, find it in the Silk browser under menu → Downloads, then open the Email app and send it as an attachment to your @kindle.com address (see the Kindle section above for where to find that address and how to approve your sender address). It’ll appear in the Kindle app already installed on your Fire within a few minutes — check the Docs tab if it’s not in your Library. PDFs open directly on a Fire with no transfer needed.

iPhone & iPad

Tap the downloaded file, then tap the Share icon and choose Books to open it in Apple Books. It’ll stay in your library afterwards. Both EPUB and PDF work this way with nothing extra to install.

Android

Open the downloaded file with Google Play Books, or install a free reader like Moon+ Reader or ReadEra from the Play Store. Note that Amazon Fire tablets run a different system without the Play Store — see the Fire Tablet section above.

Kobo

Connect your Kobo to a computer via USB. Drag the file into the root folder of the device, then eject safely. The book appears after the device syncs. Kobo reads EPUB natively, so nothing needs converting.

Nook

Connect your Nook to a computer via USB and copy the file into the My Files/Books folder on the device, then eject safely.

Computer

On a Mac, double-click an EPUB to open it in Apple Books. On Windows, the free Calibre app reads and organises EPUB files (and can convert between formats if you ever need to). PDFs open in any browser or PDF viewer on every platform.

Other e-readers

Most e-readers support EPUB natively. Connect via USB and copy the file to the device’s books folder, or use Calibre to transfer and convert if your device needs a different format.

EPUB or PDF — which should I pick?

EPUB — best for reading

Text reflows to fit your screen, so you can change the font size and read comfortably on a phone or e-reader. Pages turn left and right like a real book. This is the format to choose if your device supports it.

PDF — fixed pages

A PDF keeps exact page layout, which means it scrolls up and down and the text doesn’t resize to fit your screen. It opens almost anywhere, but on a small screen it’s harder to read than an EPUB. Choose PDF if your device can’t handle EPUB, or if the book’s layout matters — illustrations, cookbooks, workbooks.

Troubleshooting

I downloaded the EPUB but nothing opens it

That almost always means the device has no app registered for EPUB files — most commonly a Kindle or a Fire tablet. It isn’t a damaged file. Follow the Kindle or Fire Tablet steps above to transfer it, and it’ll open normally.

I emailed it to my Kindle and it never arrived

The most common cause is that you sent it from an address Amazon doesn’t recognise — check your inbox for a send-failure email from Amazon, which confirms it. Add the address you’re sending from to the “Approved Personal Document E-mail List” under Amazon → Account → Content and Devices → Preferences → Personal Document Settings, making sure it’s the complete address rather than just a domain, then send it again. If there’s no failure email, check the Docs tab in your Kindle library — personal documents sometimes land there rather than in Books.

The download link expired

Download links are time-limited for security. Go back to the page you claimed the book from and request a fresh link — you’ll get a new email with a working one.

Is this file safe? Has it been modified?

These are standard, unmodified EPUB and PDF files exactly as the author uploaded them. There’s no DRM, no tracking, and no conversion step — which is why they behave the same as a file from any other distributor.
